Oliver

Description
The Papillon is a small, elegant, toy dog that has butterfly-like ears. It has a long tail which is plumed and carried curled over the back. Their expressions are of intelligence and alertness.

Size
The adult male Papillon is 8-11 inches tall and weighs 8-10 pounds. The adult female Papillon is also 8-11 inches tall but weigh 7-9 pounds.

Coat
This breed has an abundantly, long coat. The Papillon's coat is fine, flowing straight, and silky. It is flat on back and sides of body. The Papillon has a frill on chest and there is no undercoat.

Color
The standard colors of the Papillon are white & black, white & lemon, white & red, white & sable, and white black & tan.

Temperament
This breed is both intelligent and friendly. The Papillon is gentle, affectionate, playful, charming, and amusing. They work well with older children, but may be dog aggressive.

Care
The Papillon should be groomed regularly. Comb or brush the Papillon daily to help the long, silky, single coat. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary. Clipping the nails and brushing the teeth are also advisable.

Exercise
The Papillon needs a daily walk to meet their exercise requirements. Playtime in a large fenced in area is also advisable, but should not take the place of a walk.

Training
Since this breed is intelligent they are mostly easy to train as well as performing small tricks. The Papillon can be difficult to housebreak at times.

Shedding
This breed is an average shedder.

Barking & Howling
Although they are good city dogs, apartment living can cause issues as they may bark excessively to protect their home. Close by noises that aren't real alarms will still make the Papillon bark.

Life Expectancy
A well cared for Papillon can live up to 16 years.

Health
This breed can have health issues with the kneecaps of the hind legs. Purchase a Papillon from a reputable breeder.
